Internet is a very powerful place, it connects people and their ideas. Ideas have the power to change the world and it has indeed done that in the past. The idea of “fire” has allowed us to enjoy a wide variety of cuisines, the idea of “wheel” and “aircraft” has allowed us to enjoy those cuisines at any place in the world. The idea of “industrialization” has put money in our pocket, you might have what the power of an idea is. Now, ideas could make people think and a very interesting thing is negative ideas have more power in short term. You probably would be thinking why am I talking about ideas so much? It is because of an internet article or rather many internet articles that are being circulated around that has got me thinking do people in the age of the internet has become more thoughtful or more stupid. Do people check what is being posted on the net or are they so absorbed by their ideal that they will believe anything that gets printed about them?

We have all seen how during a press conference Ronaldo set aside two bottles of Coca-Cola(Official Sponsors of UEFA EURO 2020) and asked for water. Next thing we know that Coca-Cola’s share took a dip in the stock market and it lost a whopping $4 billion worth of market cap. But did it happen so?

As can be seen from the graphs below, the share price of Coca-Cola Co. on Friday 11, June 16:00 GMT was at $56.18 and it slides to $55.30 on Monday 14, June 10:00 GMT resulting in a loss of $4 billion to the market cap of the company. Now, Ronaldo’s conference happened much later in the day and that could have hardly any effect on the share price of the company. I do however believe that for a very short term Ronaldo may have triggered a fitness idea but that is debatable in the long run and a topic for another day.

Stock markets don’t run for the short term and as most of us know business is an ongoing entity. All the verbose about “idea” that I have mentioned in the beginning is to highlight the fact that though the stock market does run on “an idea”(perception of a company and its products), it runs on the idea of a lot of people and not just a single individual or star. Ronaldo may be able to belittle the “drinking of coke(aerated drinks)” in public but Coca-Cola Co. is not just into making coke, it may be their best product but it also has one of the most varied assortments of non-alcoholic beverages.

Thus, next time you believe in someone’s idea or read an article somewhere(like here), do your research and find out if what is fed to your mind is actually what is happening or are you the idiot on the “idiot box”.
